What's a Tutorial?

A homeschool tutorial is a close partnership between professional educators and dedicated homeschooling families. Our tutorial offers onsite classes with experienced tutors on Mondays and Wednesdays and provides lesson plans for the home teachers (parents) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Unique benefits of a tutorial:

  • lifts the weight of curriculum choice and daily lesson planning from the parent's shoulders

  • infuses the student's life with variety, comradery, and fun

  • full-day, twice-weekly drop-off program with flexible volunteer commitment for parents

How It Works
HIS families drop their 1st-8th graders off each Monday and Wednesday for classes in math, language arts, science, history/geography, art, music, and electives. Enroll full time, or, if space allows, choose your classes a la carte. Each hour-long class is taught by one of our outstanding tutors and filled with hands-on learning. Classwork includes lab experiments, group work, games, crafts, presentations, writing projects, readers' theater, and more. Plus, our schedule includes an hour each class day for lunch and outdoor recess. Kindergarteners attend an all-in-one, half-day program that includes their own lunchtime and recess.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, our students are at home with their home teachers, completing home lessons provided via our academic portal, iGrade Plus. Home lessons often including reading assignments, comprehension checks, research, working through the editing and publishing process, grammar work, review, and completing projects for presentation in the classroom. Our parent home-teachers play a vital role in instructing their students, teaching strong study skills, and helping them to manage their time well.

Parents also complete required volunteer days, working as "tutor assistants" (TA's) in our classrooms and office, and help to run holiday parties, lead field trips, host open houses, create bulletin board displays, and much more.
Bottom Line
Choosing Heritage allows parents to actively oversee and participate in their children's education while also benefitting from the accountability and experience of seasoned educators. Students thrive on the regular classroom instruction and peer interaction combined with the discipleship, independence, and flexibility that homeschooling parents provide.

Extras!

Our enrichment experiences include field trips, project fairs, special lunches, spirit days, and a monthly student-led chapel service called Nuggets of Faith. We love providing opportunities for students to grow in Christ, in friendship, in leadership, and in creative expression.
